    NT clones have autoexec.nt in \system32  directory. Your path is from
there I think.
Environment usage in NT is very mysterious.
There are 2 command interpretators - cmd.exe and command.com - you never
know
what is used and when. Environment size settings are unpredictable and you
path can be truncated silently. Setting it in windows or autoexec.nt have
just temporary
effect.
