Wouldn't it be worthwhile to mount such with a "-n" in their
names?  Similar to the rN in the mini-faq, there is no obvious way
(other than the date) to tell from a simtel listing.

Another possibility might be to include data from a set of 4dos
descriptions on the mirrored directory.  You might take a look at
mkindex2.btm on my site, download directory, which does just that
and also preserves the original file times.  You can see the
effect immediately by visiting:

I am not sure if the result would be compatible with the normal
mirroring process, but I suspect it would be.
