Thanks to Kaluma Somaratna aka Grendel for a very helpful reply to
my inquiry dated February 12,2000.
The executables produced by compiling the source codes containing
assembly language with the -O2 optimization switch on a machine with a
Intel chip do run properly and the -O2 optimization does speed up the
executables by quite a bit.
The source code is much to long to post (more than 5000 lines).
I will be looking into the problem further and will answer Grendel's
other questions in a few days.
