The executables produced by compiling the source codes containing assembly language with the -O2 optimization switch on a machine with a Intel chip do run properly and the -O2 optimization does speed up the executables by quite a bit. The source code is much to long to post (more than 5000 lines). I will be looking into the problem further and will answer Grendel's other questions in a few days.
