Every editor in the known universe does that! Inserting a newline works
like any other character insert: the character goes at the insertion point
which moves to the right. You wouldn't want to have to hit return *and then
down arrow* every line while writing code, or every paragraph while word
processing.
Now an added command ^N to insert a line in place would be handy sometimes
for things. But the behavior of the enter key is certainly quite standard.
Both is better than either, and either is better than neither.

Erm... this remark seems to be a complete nonsequitur. How does it connect
with RHIDE, editors, or DJGPP?
