It's Windows. Windows won't give a DOS app the skin off a grape unless you
increase the memory in the Properties. Run your app, hit alt-enter if it's
in full screen (get it out of graphics onto text mode!), use the control
menu properties item, set DPMI memory to 65535 (type it in, M$ only put up
to 16384 in the list box as a predefined amount.)
