I was having a similar problem with the demo game.  In mode-x it
worked o.k., but when i tried it in 640x480 with GFX_VESA2L, the
"READY", "STEADY" text was flashing once and only showing part of it.
Loaded up the UNIVBE and everything was perfect.

600 fps?  Is that accurate?
I am using a pentium 133 with a ET6000 (Videologic)
