I'm currently working on a VESA library and I want to implement the sprite
drawing functions and such in assembly. I already have a working sprite
routine (for 8 bits color modes) for the NASM compiler. Now I'm wondering
whether the GAS assembler is faster/produces better code than NASM or is
there no difference? I also want to know whether the GAS assembler supports
the aligning of code, because NASM doesn't (btw.: how much faster is aligned
code than non-aligned?).

Thanks in advance, Ton.
