Besides the other things mentioned, the 2.02 alpha contains (in
fmalloc.c) a set of malloc routines that are very very fast, though
somewhat wasting of memory. They had some bugs but I think they are
fixed in the latest alpha. You probably would want to just take these
routines; the entire 2.02 libc is not yet considered stable enough for
general use.
