never use a higher bit of graphics than completely nesscessay.... expeacially
for games or aplications that could do with out it -- 8 bit color depth is
enough for most things.
not only are you cutting down the avaiable market, but your program will also
seriosly slow down. it is best just to make a diverse color palette and use
color matching routines.

(If you really want to try this out, run windows (i'm assuming you have it) in
26 colors and run an 8bit avi file (the bigger the better) then change the
color mode to 16 bit and run the same avi. you will probably see a slow down
in speed)
