Well,  I've actually played Quake (shareware version) on my trusty old
486DX/50
w 8M RAM.  Needless to say it was only playable with the screen shrunk down

to about a quarter of the normal size, but it ran.

SFX were fine,  but if more than 2 things were moving around at a time,  it
got
really choppy,  no matter what the screen size.  Also ran like crap in VESA
modes
on that machine too.
