If you look at it that way, tetex-beta should have been removed a long
time ago.  It needs a rebuild for certain executables, which has
nothing to do with this texmf package.  (Texmf is platform
independent.)

In fact, tetex-beta has been fairly useless (IMHO) because it lacks a
texmf tree, that the user was supposed to provide.  We've been waiting
for a long time for the tetex-beta maintainer to provide the missing
texmf package.  Now that he said he wasn't planning to provide it at
all, I've asked around if a texmf package would be welcomed (and
subsequently spent quite some time on it).

Note that for most normal use (running tex/latex) it will work fine.
Providing a broken package is no use to me.  I don't even have a
windows machine; this is only for [our] windows users.
