Given the level of convoluted complexity that the various layers of
dependencies present, this is a rather bold statement. Specifically with
guile I got the impression that you never know that stuff works until it
got tested and it did actually work.=20

I for one would not be comfortable with a build system that
developers explicitly have no straight forward way of testing. =20

The infrastructure in the form of linux distributions evolve. guile 2.0
was released in 2011, guile 2.2 in 2017. At some point the totally
understandable desire of having applications work exactly as they used
to, becomes a drag. Debian is known for their rather conservative
approach to version creep. In Debian10/buster they maintained both,
guile 2.0 and 2.2. However, the dependencies are a mess to say the
least. In January 2020 guile 3.0 entered the scene. Given that this
version introduces its own set of incompatibilities I can totally relate
that Debian maintainers refuse to keep guile 2.0 forever.
