Subject: [geda-user] translating gschem, gnetlist, pcb data
Reply-To: geda-user AT delorie DOT com

I've used KiCAD a little,
found some of the places it's not up to gEDA speed, and want
to translate and import and export layout data.

One limitation that is not likely to change in kicad is, you have to
have a schematic and netlist, or DRC does not run. So, if you want to
make a BGA footprint with vias and fanout included, there's no DRC available
until it is placed and then also you would need a schematic first, DRC
checks second.

Besides just text processing the
files, is there any good starting point in gnetlist scheme code for
an intermediate format for netlists?

Is there any translating work already done somewhere?
Anyone done anything with http://vectorsection.org/download.html?

Is gschem file data arranged so you can extract anything that would translate
to and from Kicad's eeschema?

John
