One limitation that is not likely to change in kicad is, you have to have a schematic and netlist, or DRC does not run. So, if you want to make a BGA footprint with vias and fanout included, there's no DRC available until it is placed and then also you would need a schematic first, DRC checks second. Besides just text processing the files, is there any good starting point in gnetlist scheme code for an intermediate format for netlists? Is there any translating work already done somewhere? Anyone done anything with http://vectorsection.org/download.html? Is gschem file data arranged so you can extract anything that would translate to and from Kicad's eeschema? John
