Hi Chad,

=20

Many thanks for your prompt response.

=20

I did install it with Sourceforge and it installed a number of =
sub-directories as C:\Program Files (x86)\PCB-4.2.0. If you want more =
details, let me know what you want and how to recover it.

=20

I have tried uninstalling it and re-installing in another directory, but =
that was the same.

=20

I have just noticed a compatibity troubleshooter in the =
=E2=80=98properties=E2=80=99 page. I have run this and it suggested =
trying to run in windows 8 compatibility mode, but that seems to have =
made no difference.

=20

It may be of interest to note that it does not appear to display the =
grid either.

=20

If it helps, the message log in pcb has the following information:

=20

Note: home directory is "C:\Users\Brian"

Using default menus

Can't open file

   'PCB.00009740.save'

fopen() returned: 'Permission denied'

=20

What permission is being denied? I have not seen a file =
pcb.00009740.save, but I do not know where I should be looking for it =
either.

=20

I do not know how I have got into the situation where I have a home =
directory set, and I do not know how to change it (or what to).

=20

My son got me to try some other pcb layout programs, none of which I =
found logical (or easy to use).

=20

Many thanks for your time and help

=20

Regards and best wishes

=20

Brian

Hi Brian-

=20

That's odd, I haven't heard of such an issue before.=20

=20

How did you install pcb? Did you use the installer on Sourceforge, or =
did you build it from source? Also, which version of pcb are you working =
with?

=20

Thanks,

Hi,

=20

I am a new user of the pcb software, using windows-10.

=20

I have managed to install the software, and it seems to be operating =
satisfactorily, except that I am not getting anything displayed in the =
board area of the screen. I have tried operations and saved the work, =
and looked at the file generated (with notepad) and items (symbol =
library, vias, elements and lines) seem to have been inserted on the =
board. I have all layers set to display. Library elements show in the =
preview area as I would expect and are obviously moving into the buffer =
for insertion. Please suggest what I may have done wrong or need to set =
up.
