I don't know how to open "My Computer" but I'm sure this e: is just
the c: which I get with dos-boot. dos doesn't get the c: and d: whcih
I get with XP.

well, not really. But it would be more comfortable than this permanent
rebooting.

however that has the disadvantage that the programs will be scattered
over 2 dirs. When e.g. I invoke them from batch, I don't know which
path to give. Some of my old .batches will no longer work

I'm also a bit hesitant although these DOS-LFN utilities seem to
work well.

yes, let's see. I'm still adapting the system...

I don't have many examples handy ATM (gcc,nasm,gwbasic,...),
but about 50% of my old DOS-programs don't run. Some crash terribly.
With Win98, about 95% of my old DOS-programs ran.

sorry, I don't remember the exact difference between "gcc" and "djgpp"
(and if you tell me, I will probably forget it later again)

I have to copy it, since I don't want to risk overwriting it with
the new files.

OK, TIA. Maybe later, (not today).

could have been another Andrew Cottrell which you get
