Usually not too involved to DIY, mostly computer time. Maybe configure it before bed, start it compiling, assuming no immediate errors, go to bed, and then check it when you wake up (it takes longer than the kernel, but nowhere near as long to compile X [only do this if you have lots of time, or maybe try overnight. {I have found it takes over 2 hours to just compile the X servers]]). Anyway, good luck. BTW, make sure you have working compiler already. Your dist compiler should work fine.
