   I've found that sign extension elimination is broken in pgcc-2.95.1, with
  the following file, the compilation is bad when using -O3. With options
  -O3 -fno-sign-extension-elim, it compiles correctly. I do not want to
  dig in the code to understand how it works, I've only found it complicates
  the assembly a lot without obvious gain (but I do not know the intrinsics
  of the processor).
