You will need to do these steps... cd /usr/src/linus make mrproper make menuconfig # Be sure you know how to get stuff right make dep make zlilo make modules make modules_install Then, boot up, and your initscripts should do a depmod -a for you. Remember, if you muss up your configuration, you aren't gonna be able to run effectively.
