this is my solution to the cpp thing where we get __ __ __ __'s on cpp's
command line during the pgcc compile. i wrote this shell script and made
it /usr/local/bin/cpp. /usr/bin/cpp is the real one.

#!/bin/sh                                                                      
/usr/bin/cpp $(echo $* | sed 's/ __//g')                                        

it just removes the funky __'s, but the compile got cleanly past the point
where it was erroring out before. i'm not sure how related this is, but my
compile bombed out at another place far after that point:
