It's M$-DOS (and PC-DOS, IIRC) that will sometimes forget to increment the date, not DR-DOS or Novell-DOS. I have observed this effect on all versions of M$-DOS I have had access to, at least 3.2 through 6.22 (haven't stress-tested M$-DOS 7.XX in this way). I have not observed this on DR-DOS 6.0, nor 7.02+, and so I doubt it's a problem with the in-between versions. BTW, this is nothing to do with Y2K, simply some of M$-DOS's time functions need to be "exercised" at least once every 24h (?) to avoid this problem. As for patches to Novell- -DOS 7.0, as I recall, there were quite a few available for various things, although I don't think Novell still has them now (?). Regarding Spam, what "antispam" means is that DJ runs messages through a filter for key words and phrases that he believes indicate that a message is Spam - such messages are bounced. Unfortunately, this is not 100% effective. Note that previously, the "S" word itself (Spam) caused messages to be bounced, so it would seem DJ has had a "change of heart" about using this particular word for filtering. Unfortunately, the most common and effective measure against Spam, ie. only allowing postings by members, is not a feature of the Delorie lists. All I can suggest is making a gentle, polite suggestion to DJ, that this feature should be given some priority for implementation ... :-/ Joe. > -----Original Message----- > From: Angela [SMTP:pe1biv AT ieee DOT org] > Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2002 6:48 PM > To: opendos AT delorie DOT com > Subject: Novell DOS 7.0 and Re: SPAM > > Maybe there is someone on this list that can tell me if there is a patch > for > Novell DOS 7.0, as I am sure it has some Y2K problem that shows itselfs as > often not having the date advance.
