I bought recently a USB-UMAX, and I am very desappointed with it : 1 - I was unable to make it work on the USB port in one of my computer 2 - In the 2nd computer, where it worked nicely, I discovered that in fact it was SLOWER that my other scanner (a PLUSTEK) using the parallel port. - Most Scanners are now TWAIN (since the beginning of the 90's), this makes them usable with any software that support the TWAIN standard. Ten years ago, I used a software under DOS to scan documents. The TWAI driver must be provided by the scanner manufacturer. - Very important also is the quality of the driver (i.e, one that can memorize settings, and other goodies that make life easier ...) If you have access to the newsgroups, I would suggest that you ask also for advice in the two following groups : alt.comp.periphs.scanner alt.comp.periphs.scanners I hope this will shed some light on your question. Now, PLEASE DO NOT USE SALUTATION FORMULAS, like Dear Sirs, because 50% of this planet will find it IRRITATING + DISCRIMINATING, and ME INCLUDED, because I am not a SIR ! --Good Luck Michael Snowden wrote: > > 2002 February 2 > Auckland > opendos AT delorie DOT com > > Dear Sir: > > For the mailing list I have four questions for which I would very > much appreciate advice. > > o I would like to learn if there are scanners available for use with > DOS.
