Unfortunately some of the "free" web serivces > isn't free since they add code that will crash browsers (ie. geocities have > JavaScript that isn't according to the standard) and/or add banners. No kidding. maybe you didn't read my message completely and have not followed previous messages about this. So I'll state some of it again. I spent over 8 hours trying to set up a web page on Geocities, a few months ago just for this purpose. I only got the front page done and barely on the second. It took foooooreeeeeeveeeeer for the site to change from one screen to the next so I could do the next step. I attempted to do it again a few days ago and I cannot get on Geocities at all. Nowhere, not Geocities home, not my webpage, not my webpage bulder, nowhere. I can get to the ftp where I store the files. I have another website that I started, it has plenty of drive space to do everything I need. But when I started building my webpage, it took foooooorrrrrrreeeeeeeevvvvvvveeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr to get to the next page to do the next step. I need to install a program and do it on my computer then upload it. I don't have the space on the computer nor the time to learn the program at this time. I wanted something that would be quick and easy to do. That is what I did. Now I have a link that I know works so people can get the files. I don't have to refer them to broken links. Plus I have software that is not to be found anywhere else on the interne and the updates are the lastest I have been able to find as are the documents. I hind a lot of outdated stuff, corrupted files, incorrect files and a lot of junk that no one ever bothered to check. Most of the stuff I have there, I have had for a long time, or I copied off the original diskettes myself, and repaired broken incomplete files that I have gotten off the internet. > >> or Christoph´s http://www.drdos.net? All it does is use up HD space. > >Also, it seems that your page or pages have been changed as well, > >my bookmarks do not work any more for your web pages. > > Matthias pages has moved, he has actually stated so on this list. Again you have not read the messages. I stated in a message, that I have gotten way behind in e-mail and probably missed it. > >I did not seem to have any such problems. I set everything up in > >just a couple of hours and was receiving e-mail almost > >immediately. > > Hours? I would only use a few minutes to get on a mailinglist (when found). > Most of the time is spent waiting for the server to send the reply. Again you did not read what I wrote. I set up the GROUP in about two hours. That included selecting people from my address book whom I thought might be interested and sending out invites. It included uploading several files of a few megabytes, it included setting up options, and I took a tour of everything and read all the stuff pertaining to setting it up. I did not join a list. I created a group. I also created a DR-DOS club. That took just a few minutes. I can't upload files there. > >Yes this is a good forum, however he has a lot of restrictions and > >a lot of my messages get bounced. > > That has never happened to me, but then I believe you send more often to > the list than I do. > > >I have e-mail several people each of the following: > (snip) > > IMHO you should never mail anyone a file. By putting it up on a webpage > people can get it if they want to (and when and how they want). > Additionally you would only need to upload it once and direct people to it > the next time someone asks for the same file. Besides, the email system > wasn't designed for file transfer and is slower on doing it, and more prone > to errors (ie. the file beeing split up by a server during transit). No kidding, you have not read the messages about this. I got tired of sending files to people. I got tired of trying to set up web pages that was taking many, many hours and getting no place fast. I got tired of referring people to broken links, files that no longer exist and a host of other problems, So I created a Group, uploaded files and sent messages out that these files are available to everyone. These will also show up on web searches. So if someone is looking for DR-DOS 3.41, this group will show up. It will probably be a while before it gets on search engines, but it will be there eventually. Pat _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
