But it would be easier to find them (and get them) if you made a homepage
of your own with the files. Unfortunately some of the "free" web serivces
isn't free since they add code that will crash browsers (ie. geocities have
JavaScript that isn't according to the standard) and/or add banners.

These have always worked for me. And they did right now when I tried them.

Matthias pages has moved, he has actually stated so on this list.

Hours? I would only use a few minutes to get on a mailinglist (when found).
Most of the time is spent waiting for the server to send the reply.

That has never happened to me, but then I believe you send more often to
the list than I do.

IMHO you should never mail anyone a file. By putting it up on a webpage
people can get it if they want to (and when and how they want).
Additionally you would only need to upload it once and direct people to it
the next time someone asks for the same file. Besides, the email system
wasn't designed for file transfer and is slower on doing it, and more prone
to errors (ie. the file beeing split up by a server during transit).
