It would have been foolish to remove my new 7200 rpm hd and install that old (1997) drive. But the mistery remains... That Quantum worked perfectly on a 100mhz BX system cooperating with a 6.4gb samsung (maybe it was a Fu-jitsu...). It can also be fault of the Eide controller on board (via 694x) or the other drives (pioneer 105s and philips CDD 3610). Actually cmos saw something, because it continued to probe that ide channel for about 1 min. HD led was always on and my primary hd was so slowed down that i couldn't even reach the boot process.
