Other useful(?) hints for channel configuration...

Reversing master/slave sometimes solves a conflict [and most MBs will
not complain if the primary master is a CDROM, or other ATAPI device.]

Atapi devices are usually shipped configured as SLAVE, and operating
systems tend to accept an Atapi SLAVE with no MASTER device.

The EIDE standard allows MASTER, SLAVE, and SOLO drive jumpering.  My
Maxtors all jumper MASTER and SOLO drives the same way; my WD has
separate jumper settings for MASTER and SOLO.
