FWIW: You may notice there is not only one ATAPI standard, but several, and although some are newer and meant to replace the older, different standards will coexist in real life. This may explain _some_ of the difficulties some users experience when trying to mix various devices. Different interpretations and implementations of the "same" standard is another story.
