It's may be 1. a virus 2. some strange DOS TSR's. 3. DOS programs that require a graphic mode 4. problems with video card related to: a. old drivers b. refresh settings (especially on old ATI video cards) c. non p&p monitor (AKA refresh problems) 5. BIOS settings related with video 6. hardware/drivers related problems, such as problems with cheep nVidia based video cards/drivers (Vanta, TNT, TNT2 M64) PC crash switching many times between text and graphics modes. 7. old Windows version (Win95 / 98) not Win98SE / ME 8. a virus ;-) Use FAR instead. It's a Windows text mode program, it's very useful for all DOS lovers, and it has a DOS prompt: http://www.rarsoft.com/download.htm Vidas P.S. Need more info to more accurate diagnostic, such as m/b model, video card model, Windows version, version of drivers, etc. P.S.S. It's not safe to use PC, not a DOS or Windows ;-)) *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 2001.01.23 at 10:05 BLASZAK Nicholas D wrote: >The problem; For several months, since I've been upgraded to a Pentium III >600 mh Tangent, I have experienced severe shutdown and boot up problems. >I am the only one in my department of about 30 persons, who have this >difficulty.
