Neither company selling parts of the corporate body should affect our DOS or Linux software. Actually Caldera and Lineo are currently dropping the ball by almost completely stopping new development on DR DOS. It really is (was) a very serious matter for SCO to sell off their stuff to Caldera. They are greatly in need of CASH to stay competitive in the software world and they get a $18MilUS from a Caldera cohort and retain most rights to their software including (currently) about $250MILUS per year for the profits Caldera realizes from sales of the server stuff. They will also be a large stockholder group in Caldera stock, and several of their executives will be top executives in the new Caldera subsiduaries. Combining with SCO helps Caldera to do what they always wanted in building a more stable and robust distribution of Linux Servers Software and they will also be able to make it more Unix aware (or compatible if you wish). Almost all of the big server software companies are swinging into the Linux camp, even Big Blue, who are porting Linux over to work on all of their hardware, from the laptops to the 390's, even though they already have their own version of Unix in AIX, which is supposed to be a very stable platform. I think we will all benefit from this merger (sale).
