That's your problem right there. :))) IMO, You should split that drive into at least 4 parts of 2.1 gig each. Better yet... split it into 16 parts of about a half a gig each. 1/2 gig partitions will get you down to 16kb clusters. With 8.4gigs, you've got no less than 64kb clusters. (perhaps as high as 128kb) Unless of coarse you're also running a 32bit FAT. In which case... that's the problem. :))) No DOS disk cache that I'm aware of is going to be able to handle a 32bit FAT properly. Run chkdsk.exe and see what it says for the size of each allocation unit. ---chkdsk results for this drive--- Volume MCCORKLE_01 created Apr-9-2000 21:19 Volume Serial Number is 19E4-2F67 279,470,080 bytes total disk space. 122,880 bytes in 13 hidden files. 1,826,816 bytes in 215 directories. 158,507,008 bytes in 4908 user files. 119,013,376 bytes available on disk. 8,192 bytes in allocation unit. 34,115 total allocation units on disk. 14,528 available allocation units on disk. 655,360 total bytes of memory. 643,328 total bytes of free memory. 642,848 bytes in largest free memory block.
