UNIX has a wide variety of graphical user interface options through the X-Windows environment. The standard New Deal interface is based on Motif which was originally written for UNIX. |What will the new "desktop metaphor" look like? What you describe doesn't |sound like anything I am used to using. The new version of New Deal will have Motif and something that looks very much like Win95. You will have a choice between launchers and will not need to use the NewManager if you don't want to. I don't think I'm giving too much away as this is being discussed in the comp.os.geos.misc newsgroup. :) | >the New |deal products would run on an 8088. What |kind of computers were the 8086's installed in? Will an 8088 replace an |8088 in an XT or PC with any advantages? The 8088 is inferior to the 8086. The 8088 is 8-bit through and through whereas the 8086 is 16-bit internally but is 8-bit in its external communications with the bus, motherboard, and peripherals. the 8086 was also clocked higher than the 8088 ever was, if I understand correctly. |It would be nice if they had a driver fro my Diamond video card for 16M |colors :-) I found a generic 256 color driver and it didn't seem to change |anything. New Deal's high colour drivers (the release version can do 24-bit colour in resolutions up to 1280x1024) require VESA compatibility. Try running UNIVBE or similar if your card doesn't have hardware VESA compatibility. On the other hand, it might be that the drivers are working fine. The shareware version doesn't come with much that can use the drivers, that I can think of. It doesn't come with NewDraw or MediaViewer, if memory serves. I don't know if Scrapbook can import GIFs or not, but if it can you could try iporting a 256 colour GIF. Steven Hurdle
