It is a fine line walking between the world of commercial renumeration and the world of free sharing as Opera is trying to do, and now perhaps Caldera. If/when they release the source code, I wonder how they will continue to be able to charge a fee for the binary? In theory, those with the daring do can compile the sources themselves, for free. Also the possibility of worldwide informal development, add ons, and code sharing would become impossibily muddy, if Caldera charged for their version of the latest greatest. Would the non-Caldera contributors get paid? Perhaps Caldera can/will go the route of folks like debian or redhat and charge a fee for the convenient packaging of installment packages, rather than the software itself.
