OpenLinux is just Caldera's name for their distribution. It doesn't mean it's any more open than the others. :-) It's rpm-based like Red Hat. There's a review of OpenLinux in the July issue of Performance Computing (formerly the once-cool Unix Review which has now taken an NT slant). There's some comparison with RedHat regarding the installation. Simply put it is said to be a good choice for total beginners as the installation assumes you know nothing at all (not as flexible as Red Hat's though) and it comes with a bunch of commercial software not included in other distributions such as: StarOffice Netscape's FastTrack http server Software AG's ADABAS D relational database BRU2000 backup software (both console and X) And other things. Including the Looking Glass drag-n-drop desktop. And two CDs worth of freeware. This applies to the Standard package. Not sure what's included in the Basic one. Marc D.
