I think it was the August '97 issue of Linux Gazette that had an extensive discussion of setting up LOADLIN to boot Linux, such as assigning it to the SHELL variable in CONFIG.SYS. This with the "?" and "CHAIN" DR/Novell/Open DOS CONFIG commands should add this to you options. > thanks > Sam > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: INT:MPaul AT calderauk DOT com > > On 97/11/16 18:00:19 Sam asked: > > > >Next can you have OpenLinux as one of the boot choices? > Using the standard boot sector, you can chain multiple boot mangers, too. Is this order just the how you discussed things, do you have a a special version of Loader, or am I missing something? (Maybe the capabilities of the NT boot loader & Windows 95?) You seem to imply: Boot Manager -> Loader -> NT boot loader -> NT \ Linux \ various DOS's \ Win95 -> MS-DOS 6.22 \ Warp \ PC-DOS 7 On my system, the order is: Loader -> Boot Manager -> Dual Boot -> Batch Files that use a utility \ various OS's \ various 'Bootsect.exe' from a book by partions Ronnie Richardson, that can extract and write Partition boot sectors, coupled with renaming the various io.sys & dos.sys / ibm*.com files On looking M.P.'s stuff over, maybe Loader uses a different sector (Master or Partition) depending on whether it's on the first Primary partion or not? > Matthias > > From : INT:MPaul AT calderauk DOT com Refer to : NONE > Although you can merge OpenDOS & MS-DOS CONFIG.SYS and > AUTOEXEC.BAT files, I recommend to maintain them in seperate files. Something I found out before I knew about the DCONFIG.SYS file was that MS-DOS 5.0 (I really don't know about any others) ignores the CHAIN= DR/Novell/OD command. > ------------------------------------------------------------ > Matthias Paul > eMail: > Web: http://www.rhrz.uni-bonn.de/~uzs180/mpdokeng.html From : INT:MPaul AT calderauk DOT com Refer to : NONE > ............... > you can also use the older DRI or Novell LOADER, or the CCI LOADER, > which uses a different configuration file format. Just what you've tested? I'm using it right now with Warp 3.0 - you just point loader to the file 'os2ldr' in the BOOT.LST file. The CONFIG.SYS file conflicts with MS-DOS, but I think this can be solved by setting up the Recovery Choices menu to pop up, and using a CONFIG.A (or B or C etc) > ................. > ------------------------------------------------------------ > Matthias Paul > eMail: > Web: http://www.rhrz.uni-bonn.de/~uzs180/mpdokeng.html With all the talk about Windows 95 compatability on this list, am I the only person using OS/2 on this list? One thing I've noticed is that sometimes after creating a file with OpenDOS, then switching back to DR DOS 5.0, I get an error message trying to access the file - it last happened too long ago for me to remember any specifics.
