MS-DOS allow you pass path with "/". But when command.com parse command line, then (1) for internal commands any "/" start option, (2) for external programs "/" counted only on program name: "abc/def hij/klm" forces start of "abc"[.bat,.com,.exe] with "/def hij/klm" command line string. After this command line parsed only by program itself. For example, ARJ allow you switch between "-" and "/" as option start, but PKZIP allow only "-".
