I have adapted my "files" program to handle both long filenames and OpenDOS-style permissions. It still needs some work, but I'd like feedback on what people think... not so much about the program itself (it is something I use with the /D switch, you might like to try it), but the main thing is the way it tries to be compatible with what people expect from legacy apps and longnames - it uses the longname only if needed. If people like it I'll extend the method to more utilities. Try setting FILES=/F:$C0 to force 8+3 names and the old format, by the way.
