They allow you to selectively give specific users specific access to specific files/directories on an individual basis. Unfortunately this comes with a big performance tradeoff since the ACL's have to be checked as well as standard file protections. Although I personally have no use for ACL's outside VMS, I can see where someone else might. ext2 is acl extensible AFAIR. Before someone reinvents the wheel, why not read the ext2 documentation. I've got lots of docs on it if anyone wants them. (Now I've got to go read them so I know what I'm talking about.) :o) Mike A.
