For efficiency, the program should be built into the cache I guess. Even better, make a device driver that reads ext2fs and hpfs partitions and makes these files available to DOS programs via the same interface. I can read long filenames under OpenDOS from VFAT or extfs (with some limitations), but making them available to programs (allowing for mixed use of old calls and new ones) seems a bit difficult.
