Carmack told that they were gonna try and make realtime curves (nurbs or something) and have rough surfaces with dents and all, in stead of your normal flat textured polygon. Then the interviewer asked what kind of Silicon Graphics we'd need for that. Carmack answered with the specs I posted earlier, then the interviewer asked if he was kidding. Carmacj answered with something like, that they're planning on releasing Quake II at the end of 1998 (or "when it's done") and that people who want to keep up with technology in software, should expect to also have to keep up with hardware technology. I think the magazine was "Computer + Video Games". Yeep
