Don't ask me where I got the URL from, but I've been using it for at least 4 or 5 months. It's great! > > LINUX: What changed from 2.0.27 to 2.0.28? I don't notice anything. Old line that needs to be removed from my tagline file! Not only do I know what was changed, but the latest version is 2.0.29 now. > More importantly, what advantages would using Linux give me? Other > than the hacking fun of course ;-) - A true 32 bit multitasking multiuser operating system. - It's FREE, and 99.999999999999% of all of the software is free. - It is IMPOSSIBLE TO CRASH. (Unless of course your computer is misconfigured or screwed up in some big way) - It has the best possible internet connectivity tools and software available under any OS. (Non-UNIX based that is) - It has almost 30 years worth of software available for it, and can run DOS (DOSemu) and Windows software (DOSemu, WINE, WABI) - Multiple virtual consoles - X-windows RULES THE INFINITE UNIVERSE OFF ALL THAT IS GOOD!! - Built in networking for virtually every existing network - Built in support for virtually all hardware out there (new drivers being added by the minute) - FULL CUSTOMIZEABILITY!! - Full source code to virtually everything (kernel, all binaries and utilities, etc...) However.... It is NOT for the average inexperienced computer user! It has a large learning curve, many aspects of configuring and programming are extremely cryptic, it needs TONNES of configuring. Definate programming background is heavily recommended. Not that a non-technical non-programmer couldn't learn and love Linux, just that someone non-technical would be unlikely to enjoy all the work that is needed to get things all set up. Fortunately, the Linux HOWTO's and the LDP come to the rescue! If you're not a programmer, then I'd heavily recommend staying away from Linux (at least for the time being). The best thing of all about Linux is that I freely run as many programs as I want, in fact many copies of the same program, and have had as many as 75 programs running simultaneously - all without any crashes. Crashes are virtually impossible. This is the MOST important thing of all. I could go on and on about it, but I wont. I don't push Linux onto people, rather I tell them how great it is _for_my_own_needs_ and they can do what they want. Linux doesn't do everything, but from my experiences it DOES do (everything - 1) :o) If you're interested more in Linux, email me privately and I'll send you some small Linux FAQ's. TTYL Mike A.
