What is GEOS? I think, failing a better description, GEM could could be quite adequately described like that. GEOS is a multithreaded, preemptive, graphical object oriented GUI/OS that uses virtual memory and demand paging. It's CDE compliant, but the modular design means you can replace the entire UI module with one you like better. It uses minimal resources (a 286 with 640kB memory; it will run on an XT if you're patient). You can fit a *good* word processor/DTP package/paint program/vector drawing program into an 80kB executable. It's amazingly fast, due to efficient coding. It even supports long filenames. Try: http://www.newdealinc.com ...or comp.os.geos for more info. There's a shareware version you can download. BTW, has the mailing list server stopped adding [OpenDOS] on the subject line or has mh learnt? -- ------------------- http://www-hons-cs.cs.st-and.ac.uk/~dg -------------------- If you're up against someone more intelligent than you are, do something totally insane and let him think himself to death. --- Pyanfar Chanur ---------------- Sun-Earther David Daton Given of Lochcarron ------------------
