You should never use the scanners that come with the OS's since they are always horribly out of date. There are many scanners out there but F-Prot is undoubtedly the best. It is *FREE* for non-commercial use, and is really a great program. It scans both conventionally (signature based), and has a heuristics analysis engine to detect unknown virii. I've got about 1200 viruses that I use to test out different scanners with and FPROT is the ONLY scanner that consistently gets them ALL. ftp://oak.oakland.edu/pub/simtel/virus/fp-225.zip The above URL might not be exact, but I'm sure you'll find it. Also, McAfee has a virus scanner for LINUX! If you are a Linux user, you can scan your DOS drives from within Linux now!! The McAfee scanner isn't as good as Fprot, but I use it to scan my DOS drives as a background job when the system is idle every couple days. Sure saves from WAITING in DOS. Enjoy! Mike A.
