This would invalidate one of the strategic benefits of git: No dependence on a central server. A hurricane thousends of kilometers away cannot affect access to the local copy of the gedasymbols lib. You can safely use it directly for current projects. This is how I use gedasymbols -- a local copy serves as the actual libray to be used by gschem and pcb.
