 Kicad's use of that format is faulty, in this I agree with Tibor Palinkas:

Good for you. For me, kicad fails due to
. inferiour hierarchical support
. no copy and paste between running programs
. difficult to run multiple instances of the same program

at least up to v.5.1.9.
