On machines which are still on an older LTS or where someone put in the effort to build gEDA and dependencies in our organization, gEDA is still used.I do still use pcb, though, and not pcb-rnd. I would suggest that if you are planning on pulling the gEDA servers, please try to do so only after all of the gEDA history and assets are moved elsewhere. This includes moving the repositories to github, serving the release files somewhere, keeping gedasymbols.org alive, and making sure all the documentation and wiki are mirrored somewhere. The ideal result would be that the software be buildable by someone who is willing to put in the effort, irrespective of what the distributions are doing in terms of dependencies. This could be done the way windows does it, building the dependencies and installing a private copy as part of the installation process itself. I would not recommend using things like flatpak or snap for this, since I'm not entirely convinced either of those formats taken independently is certain to be long lived. As a person who does not know much about the gEDA sources and haven't ever used scheme, I don't know how much effort this would be. I am open to helping with this transfer, though. I appreciate that there are still some users of these programs, but
without developers, they will quickly become unusable as distros upgrade toolkits and geda starts failing to build.

Users of gschem and pcb are probably best served by switching to one of
the forks, like lepton and pcb-rnd, which have active development.
