GTK2 update, I get unreasonably large widgets on my screen; I assumed this was done with the intention to accommodate for such screens. Maybe an update to GTK 2.24.33 fixes/alleviates the issue for you? If you are using Ubuntu, this is probably an issue with the GTK theme.
