And I think I found the best solution so far: after doubling the height of this separator line to 2 pixels, things work OK. No more ugly hack and no more error messages, not even when starting the application. Apparently, the theme can't handle an image height of just 1 pixel. I also filed a bug report, and hope that it is picked up for an upcoming update.
