So I commented out the lines referring to the .png file in the following two menu files: usr/share/themes/Breeze/gtk-2.0/widgets/menu usr/share/themes/Breeze-Dark/gtk-2.0/widgets/menu This is of course a despicable hack, but it does the trick. Should the problem reappear after an update, I will see if I can put it on someone's plate upstream in the developer's chain for these themes, or maybe come up with a solution myself.
