A long time ago, Silicon Valley learned how to deal with software toolchains going out-of-date / unmaintained / etc.. Always install in a virtual machine, that can be backed-up and made available to any engineer in the company at any time in the future. In this particular case, in the Debian/Ubunutu world, a VM is needlessly heavy. I made a Debian Buster chroot and installed geda there. Works like a charm! The total space taken up by that chroot is 727 Mbytes, including the one design I need access to. I made good notes about the steps I took, and could share with anyone who asks. It's pretty basic (s)chroot stuff, starting with debootstrap. - Larry
